The ASK Method is a marketing methodology to better understand your market at a deep emotional level.
There are 3 major phases, choosing your market, asking what they want, then building it.
The ASK method allows you to better understand their pain, their needs, their wants, and desires. Moreover, it allows you to understand the different buckets that exist in your market, so you can create powerful messaging and a personalized product that is just perfect for each particular bucket.
By buckets, I mean different groups of people or segments that exist in your market. Now, whenever I bring up the idea of the ASK Method, people think that it’s all about asking people what they want and give it to them. One quote in particular that is attributed to Henry Ford, says: “If I ask people what they wanted, they would have told me faster horses.” (Even the idea of a car didn't exist then)
There is another quote by Steve Jobs: “People don’t know what they want until you show it to them”. You can’t just ask people what they want and give it to them. The devil’s in the details, so you can’t walk through the front door, but you want to walk through the side door. It all comes down to asking the right questions in the right way, at the right time. That’s what the ASK Method is all about.
Who is the ASK Method for?
The ASK Method is just perfect for you if you’re in one of the following 5 buckets. You need to understand not only what they’re saying, but how they’re saying it.
One of the things that my mentors taught me is that if you can articulate better than your prospect can articulate to themselves the pain that’s going on in their minds, the only question they’re going to ask you is: “What do I do about it?”. With this, you can create trust like nothing else, especially when you can demonstrate a deep level of empathy and understanding. That’s the second piece.
So the first piece is discover, and the second piece is language. The third piece is buckets. One of the biggest opportunities is to begin with buckets. When someone lands on your website, instead of beginning by communicating in a one-size-fits-all way, begin by asking questions. An example is: “Hi. Thank you so much for visiting my website. What I found out is that, when it comes to helping people, there are no one-size-fits-all solutions, because everyone is unique”. Next, you can say something like this: “If you take a moment to answer a few simple questions, I can put you in touch with the best path and the best resource for you. Simply click the button below and I’ll see you on the other side.”
Now, when you do something like that by asking questions, you are disarming your site visitors. Instead of trying to sell yourself right away, you begin by trying to understand your market. When you do this, instead of having one message that everybody receives, you can ask a few simple questions to customize the emails you send to people. You can also customize your sales video, customize your sales page based on a person’s situations. That means customizing your messaging based on a person’s buckets.
